PATNA: All India Institute of Medical Sciences-Patna (AIIMS-P) will soon start a new 300-bed critical care unit (CCU) for serious patients and an advance burn centre and research lab equipped with all modern facilities.
Announcing it at 12th foundation day of AIIMS-P, its executive director Dr G K Pal said the institute has come a long way in academic, clinical and medical research fields in a short time.
“Work is also in progress for setting up a virology lab at the institute,” he added.
Dr Pal announced that a sports complex will also be developed at AIIMS-P for all-round development of students.
AIIMS-P president Subrata Sinha was the chief guest while Dr Nihar Ranjan Biswas, vice-chancellor of Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry, and former director, IGIMS, Patna, was the guest of honour.
AIIMS-P superintendent Dr C M Singh said the virology lab would be the next generation sequencing lab for identification of strains of disease-causing virus.
Dr Singh added the proposed CCU would be a wing of advance intensive care units (ICUs) which could be used by any department, be it orthopedics, anaesthesia, surgery or medicine, for shifting the patients in need of intensive care.
Besides, work was also in progress for construction of a nine-storey residential facility for doctors and staff.
“AIIMS-P was established with MBBS and BSc nursing classes in 2012. Over the past few years, there has been rapid recruitment of specialist faculty and now approximately 80% of sanctioned faculty posts have been filled in addition to recruitment of nurses, technicians, non-faculty staff and administrative staff,” Dr Singh said.
Addressing the function, MP Chhedi Paswan appreciated the Centre for providing affordable and accessible health facilities to the countrymen.
