MADHEPURA: Unidentified criminals allegedly broke into a Bank of India ATM on Station Road in Madhepura town in the early hours of Thursday, attempting to steal cash stashed inside. They tried breaking the machine down with a hand pump handle.
According to sources, the incident was captured and transmitted to the bank’s central office in Mumbai via a sensor attached to the ATM.
The officials concerned reported the matter to the Bihar police headquarters in Patna, which referred it to the Madhepura police. Cops swung into action immediately, but the criminals were able to escape due to the darkness and narrow street.
Vikrant Kumar, the branch manager of Bank of India, told this reporter that the ATM was damaged, but no cash withdrawn.
“A case has been filed against unknown criminals in this connection, and police are conducting an investigation,” said Suresh Prasad Singh, SHO-cum-inspector of the Madhepura police station.
