Congress struggles to select leader in assembly

Patna: After a poor performance in the assembly elections, crisis continues in Congress. The party is yet to take a call on who will be the leader of the party in the state assembly, even about a month after the assembly results were announced, where the party won only six seats.

With factionalism reportedly preventing the selection of the leader, the party high command has been entrusted with the task of finding a leader. “The party high command is looking into the matter, and the issue will be settled before the start of the upcoming budget session,” state Congress spokesperson Rajesh Rathore said on Wednesday.




Informed sources said the issue has been delayed due to the party’s disastrous performance in the elections, reducing its tally to six in 2025 from 19 in the 2020 assembly elections.

“The urgency in selecting the leader of the party in the house is required mainly in two cases: First, when you are going to form the govt and you have to inform who will be the CM, and secondly, when you are the main opposition leader and you have to tell who will be the leader of the opposition,” a Congress leader said.

Sources informed that the party faces the serious challenge of keeping the party intact now, with the party electing its MLAs in single digits.
