City to get 25 vending zones, upgraded civic services: Minister
Patna: In a major push to decongest streets and modernise urban infrastructure, state urban development and housing minister Nitin Nabin on Thursday ordered the immediate identification and development of 25 designated vending zones across the state capital. He asked officials concerned to complete GIS-based mapping of the city’s entire water supply, drainage and sewerage networks as a priority.
Chairing a review meeting with Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) officers, the minister set timelines for upgrading civic services. He instructed the civic body to procure specialised vehicles for garbage collection and ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply in every ward.
A major focus of the meeting was the Ramchak Bairia Solid Waste Management project. After receiving a detailed presentation on its progress, construction, machinery installation, and processing capacity, Nabin directed that the facility be developed to international standards. He emphasised the urgent need for 100% door-to-door garbage collection, source segregation, and attention to plastic waste management so that the plant operates at maximum efficiency, making Patna self-reliant in scientific waste processing despite growing population pressure.
Nabin described the Ramchak Bairia plant as a game-changer for sustainable urban waste management. He also reviewed water supply schemes, sewerage expansion, drainage cleaning, and sanitation indicators, insisting that population growth requires a scientific and time-bound approach.
He congratulated residents, PMC officials, sanitation workers, and the team for Patna’s improved ranking in national cleanliness surveys. “This success reflects collective dedication and teamwork. We have set new benchmarks in swachhta, and with continued commitment, we will transform Patna into one of India’s smartest, cleanest, and most liveable cities,” he said.
Department secretary Sandeep Kumar R Pudakalkatti, additional secretary Vijay Prakash Meena, municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena, and Buidco MD Animesh Kumar Parashar were present in the review meeting.
