PATNA: A workshop on globe-making was organised at Sri Krishna Science Centre here on April 20-21 to mark Earth Day in which 11 students of different schools participated. A poetry competition, Protect Mother Earth', was also held in which about 100 students took part.
Former Patna University vice-chancellor L N Ram emphasised on making the city a Zero Waste' city.
He also threw light on the consequences of the increasing sea level as a result of global warming and asked for immediate steps towards reversing the trend of increasing global temperature.
The directorate of field publicity, Union ministry of information, and broadcasting and Rose Bud School organised a rally here to mark Earth Day on Thursday. Hundreds of students took part in the rally with banners and posters. They also made a human chain pledging to make the earth free of pollution.
Addressing the rally, the Patna director of directorate of field publicity, S K Malviya said the exploitation of natural resources posed a threat to the existence of earth. Rose Bud School principal Ms Rizvi said about 500 saplings were planted by the students in the city.
An essay competition on "Impact of Global Warming on Climate Change" was held at A N College to mark the occasion. A N College principal Haridwar Singh asked the students to protect the earth by planting saplings to help reduce greenhouse gases.
The eco task force of Patna Women's College and Carmel Primary School also celebrated the 40th anniversary of
World Earth Day. The programme was inaugurated by college principal Sister Doris D'Souza, who stressed the efforts to be made to conserve natural resources.
Students of Carmel Primary School presented a skit on their views, action plans and resolutions to protect their surroundings and environment. A booklet on Causes, effects and mitigation of climate change' was also distributed among the students.
Bihar State Pollution Control Board in association with Patna Medical College also celebrated World Earth Day.
Functions were also held at several other city schools as KidZee Kidz Era, Patna Central School, Prema Lok Mission School and Holy Mission Secondary School to mark the day.
