PATNA: Patna boy Saharsh has brought laurels to the country by securing second position among the three global champions of International Science Olympiad (ISO) 2023, results of which were declared on Sunday.
The online examination for ISO was organised by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (
MIT), US, a few months ago. Katherine of California and Schwak K of China secured the first and third positions, respectively.
Born to
Sudhir Kumar, chief conservator of forest (Bihar) and Ruby Verma, Saharsh will celebrate his 16th birthday on September 2.
He is a Class X student of Don Bosco Academy, Patna.
Saharsh secured 299 marks out of 300 (99.67%) at the ISO competition in which about eight lakh students from across the world participated. He will get Rs 30,000 in cash besides a gold medal and a certificate of appreciation from MIT for this achievement.
Studying science subjects and participating in brain exercise contests are Saharsh's hobbies. He has earned over 51 awards at different levels so far. Besides being a computer savvy person, Saharsh loves reading books and playing lawn tennis in leisure hours.
"I drew inspiration from the lives of world-level entrepreneurs and support from my parents. I wish to create a distinct place for myself in the field of science by cracking the IIT entrance examination," he told this newspaper.
