AURANGABAD: The Aurangabad divisional jail will soon have 16 CCTV cameras, 16 walkie-talkies, two hand-held metal detectors and two door frame metal detectors to keep an eye on the activities of the 150 inmates lodged in the prison. A proposal was sent by the jail administration to the state government early this month which has been approved.
Jail superintendent Bhola Prasad on Saturday said the equipment were required to ensure proper security.
"Of the 16 CCTV cameras, two will be installed at the entrance gate from where visitors enter the jail. The door frame metal detectors will be installed at the main gate and the security personnel properly trained to handle the equipment. Walkie-talkies will also be provided to the jawans so that there is better coordination among them in case of an emergency," he told TOI.
The decision to have a high-tech security system was taken after several objectionable items, including cellphones, were recovered during surprise raids by the DM and the SP on the jail premises.
