CBI arrests ECR chief controller Abhay Kumar in Hajipur

The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) arrested chief controller of the East Central Railway (ECR) Abhay Kumar posted at Hajipur on Thursday evening in connection with accepting bribe from several job aspirants in the name of giving them jobs in railways in the Group 'D' category.

PATNA: The Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI ) arrested chief controller of the East Central Railway (ECR) Abhay Kumar posted at Hajipur on Thursday evening in connection with accepting bribe from several job aspirants in the name of giving them jobs in railways in the Group 'D' category. The CBI sleuths conducted raids at his office and recovered several incriminating documents kept in Patna and Hajipur. ECR chief public relations officer (CPRO) Birendra Kumar confirmed the CBI raids and subsequent arrest of Kumar by the CBI. According to sources, one Raj Kumar of Lalganj under Vaishali district had given Rs 5.5 lakh to Abhay Kumar on on the assurance that he would get a job in the railways in Group 'D' category. Like him, many other aspirants had given money to Kumar, but no jobs were given to them. On being cheated, Raj Kumar informed the CBI office in Patna and got his complaint registered, following which the CBI acted swiftly and raided the office and house of the chief controller in Hajipur, sources said. Though interrogation continued late Thursday night, the CBI is said to be investigating the matter from all possible angles to find out the involvement of other people in the fake job racket, sources said adding CBI raid on the railway premises in Hajipur had created a panic among other railway employees . Meanwhile, a railway vigilance team interrogated chief medical superintendent of Sonepur divisional railway hospital on Thursday night in connection with alleged corruption charges.
