SAMASTIPUR/PATNA: Police have so far not been able to identify the woman whose
half-burned body
was found in a tobacco field on the outskirts of Damdari Chaur under the Warisnagar police station area in
Samastipur
district on Wednesday.
The woman had been gagged by a piece of cloth stuffed in her mouth and her face was completely burnt. The woman had bangles on her hands and red dye (alta) was applied to her feet, indicating that she was married.
SHO of Warisnagar police station Prasunjay Kumar said announcements were made through public address system in several neighbouring villages regarding the recovery of the body, but to no avail.
“All police stations in Samastipur and neighbouring districts have been alerted. Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the murdered woman,” the SHO said, adding that post mortem report was still awaited.
Samastipur SP Vikas Burman had said on Wednesday that the woman was probably killed somewhere else and her body was later burned at the secluded spot.
Meanwhile, even after lapse of five days since the recovery of the body of a teenage girl from Bangra police station area in Samastipur district, police have so far not succeeded in identifying the victim. Police sources said the girl was probably killed after being raped.
Surendra Prasad Singh, a CPI-ML functionary, said action should be taken against the criminals involved in these incidents. “We will have no other option but to resort to protests if the culprits are not punished,” he added.
