BSEB intermediate examination starts at 1,762 centres
Patna: The 2026 annual intermediate examination commenced on a peaceful note at all the 1,762 examination centres across the state on Monday.
The examinations, conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), were held under tight security arrangements in both sittings. Science and arts faculty students appeared in biology or philosophy in the first sitting, while economics was held in the second sitting.
The exam began on a positive note, with most examinees satisfied with the biology paper. “The questions asked in the paper were mostly based on the pattern of model questions released by BSEB in the first week of Dec and hence they were easy to answer,” said an examinee coming out of the Bankipur Girls School centre.
However, some students found the economics paper difficult. “The questions of economics were not so easy to answer and, hence, I could not answer all the questions satisfactorily,” said an examinee at a Mithapur centre.
As many as 26 examinees were expelled for using unfair means on the first day, with Nawada district reporting the highest number at 13. One student in Sheikhpura district was caught impersonating another examinee, BSEB sources said.
The BSEB had made fool-proof arrangements for the delivery of question packets and their opening at the examination centres to rule out any possibility of question paper leakage. The sealed packets were opened in the presence of officials concerned and examinees at the centres.
Magistrates along with police personnel were deployed at all examination centres. No student was allowed to enter the examination hall after the commencement of the exam. Each examinee was frisked at the entrance gate as well as inside the hall, and one invigilator was appointed for every 25 examinees. Each invigilator furnished an affidavit certifying that all the examinees under his or her supervision were thoroughly frisked and nothing objectionable was found in their possession.
In Patna district, the examination was conducted peacefully and fairly at all the 84 centres in both sittings.
BSEB chairman Anand Kishor paid surprise visits to several centres, including Government Girls School and Government Boys School, Shastrinagar; K B Sahay High School, Sheikhpura; Government Girls High School, Gardanibagh; Kamla Nehru Girls High School, Yarpur; and S R P S +2 School, Gardanibagh, to inspect the arrangements and conduct of the examination.
The board has set up 152 model examination centres across the state—four in each district—where examinees, invigilators and security personnel are all women. In Patna, the four model centres are Government Girls High School, Bankipur; Government Girls High School, Shastrinagar; Kamla Nehru Girls High School, Yarpur; and Government Girls High School, Gardanibagh. These centres were decorated with flowers and balloons, provided a red-carpet welcome to students, and had special help desks.
