BPSSC SI prelims result out; over 35k qualify for mains

Patna: The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) on Sunday declared the preliminary examination results for sub-inspector (daroga) recruitment, with 35,857 candidates qualifying for the main examination scheduled for April 19. Over 7.26 lakh aspirants had appeared for the preliminary exam held on January 18 and 21, 2026. Candidates can check their results on the official website of BPSSC.

The main written examination will comprise two papers. The first paper will be General Hindi, carrying 200 marks. It will consist of 100 questions and will have a duration of two hours. Candidates must secure at least 30% marks to qualify this paper. However, marks obtained in this paper will not be added to the final merit list, as it is only of qualifying nature.

The second paper will be General Studies and will also carry 200 marks with 100 questions, to be attempted within two hours. It will include questions on general science, civics, Indian history, Indian geography, mathematics, and mental ability. Marks obtained in this paper will be considered for preparing the final merit list.

There will be negative marking in both papers, with 0.2 marks deducted for each wrong answer. The answer booklet will be prepared in two copies, one of which will be retained securely by the commission.

Under the recruitment drive, appointments will be made to a total of 1,799 posts. The commission has selected candidates for the main examination at 20 times the number of vacancies, based on reservation norms. Of the total posts, 614 are reserved for women.

Candidates who clear the main written examination will be called for the next stage of the selection process—the physical efficiency test (PET). At this stage, six times the number of candidates against the total vacancies will be shortlisted.
