Patna: Body of a youth was recovered from Kantahi ghat in Alamganj police station area of Patna City on Saturday. According to police, the deceased was identified as Ankit Kumar (22), a resident of Kharakuan locality.
Local residents, after spotting the body that was washed up to the banks of the Ganga river, immediately alerted the police. Officials from Alamganj police station reached the spot, took possession of the body, and began an investigation.
Preliminary observation by the police indicated that the youth’s body bore serious injury marks, suspected to be stab wounds. They suspected that the youth was murdered at some other location, and his body was dumped in the Ganga in an attempt to destroy evidence or conceal the crime.
A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was summoned to the spot to collect evidence for further analysis. The body was sent to the NMCH-Patna for a postmortem.
Alamganj SHO Rahul Kumar Thakur said, “A murder case was registered against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the law. Police intensified their probe to apprehend those responsible. Statements of the family members will be recorded. The exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the autopsy report comes.”
Police are also scrutinising footage of CCTV cameras installed at the ghat and surrounding areas to gather clues about the incident.
ASP of Patna City, Raj Kishore, said: “According to the family, the youth was missing since Friday evening. They did not inform the police, which got information about the body on Saturday morning. The victim has been identified. The family named some people in the case. Stab marks are clearly visible on the body.” He added an SIT has been formed to investigate the case.
