Patna: The bodies of a 25-year-old woman and a one-year-old child were found on a railway track near Mau Uttar village under the Vidyapati police station area in Samastipur district on Thursday. The woman’s body was mutilated, while the child’s body was found placed on a sack near the track.
According to police, railway staff spotted the bodies during track inspection and informed the station master, who then alerted the local police station. It is suspected that the bodies were dumped there after murder to make it appear as a suicide. As the news spread, a crowd gathered at the spot and alerted the police. The identity of the woman is yet to be established, officials said.

Dalsinghsarai SDPO Vivek Sharma said, “We suspect both might be mother and child. No external injury marks were found on the bodies. Police have initiated an investigation and sent the bodies for post-mortem. The FSL team also collected evidence for the investigation. We are trying to identify the deceased and have kept the bodies in the morgue for 72 hours. Further investigation is underway.”
