BJP protest march tomorrow over women’s quota bill row
Patna: The BJP will stage an “akrosh” (protest) march in Patna and other cities of the state on Monday against the opposition for not supporting the Constitution Amendment Bill seeking 33% reservation for women in Parliament and legislative assemblies.
This was decided at a party meeting on Saturday, presided over by state president Sanjay Saraogi. Women present at the meeting unanimously declared the opposition anti-women and said it was celebrating the non-passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’. The bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha on Friday due to lack of a two-thirds majority.
Saraogi said the opposition has betrayed “Matru Shakti” and warned depriving women of their rights would cost them dearly. Addressing the gathering, he said the BJP would take to the streets to expose those who have trifled with women’s dignity and asserted they would deliver a befitting reply to the opposition conspiracy.
BJP general secretary (organisation) Bhikhu Bhai Dalsania, former minister Rama Nishad, Sajal Jha, Preeti Shekhar, Anamika Paswan and Siddharth Shambhu, along with state vice president Sanjay Khandelia, were present.
Meanwhile, members of the LJP(RV) women’s wing staged a demonstration at the Income Tax roundabout in Patna on Saturday and burned effigies of Rahul Gandhi, shouting slogans.
Although the govt had also tabled the ‘Delimitation Bill, 2026’ and the ‘Union and State Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026’, these could not be advanced.
Rashtriya Lok Morcha chief and MP Upendra Kushwaha said, “I strongly condemn this anti-state and anti-women misdeed committed by the opposition parties. The people of Bihar will teach them a fitting lesson. Congress and the parties within the INDI Alliance have prevented half of the country’s population from gaining entry into the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies,” he posted on X.
JD(U) chief state spokesperson and MLC Neeraj Kumar said the bill could not be enacted due to the obstinacy of the opposition and criticised Rahul, saying he has no interest in securing political rights for poor and vulnerable women.
