MOTIHARI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLC Rajesh Gupta alias Bablu Gupta has lodged a complaint with police alleging that he received an extortion call from an unknown person on Sunday and asked to pay Rs 20 lakh at Dumariaghat by Monday. Gupta, also a businessman, alleged that the caller threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to pay the money.

said police have started investigating the case. “Efforts are on to identify the caller and arrest him,” the SP added.

Police sources said criminal gangs operating in the district and some veteran criminals lodged in jail have once again become active and are making threat calls to businessmen, doctors, teachers, lawmakers and even common people. In most of the cases, criminals are making extortion calls using number of other persons to settle score with them.

and vice chairman of Motihari Nagar Parishad Mohabul Haque have also received extortion calls in the recent past.
