PATNA: Till recently he won accolades as a good teacher of mathematics and the students were enamored of his style of teaching on YouTube.

On Friday, he was elected the mukhiya of Salha panchayat under Sahdei Bujurg block in Vaishali district of Bihar.

Meet mathematics teacher-turned mukhiya

Bipin

Kumar, more popular as Bipin Sir among the students preparing for various competitive examinations.

He registered his victory over his nearest rival by 101 votes, the result of which was announced on Friday.

A huge crowd of students escorted the newly elected mukhiya to his home from the counting centre and offered garlands as a token of respect for their teacher in a new role.

“Khan Sir had campaigned for Bipin Sir in the panchayat election. The former is very popular among the students because of his unique and simple method of teaching. He has a huge following on YouTube as well,” said a student, who introduced himself as Rakesh.

Bipin Kumar, however, told the media that he would continue to teach students as usual and also serve the people of the panchayat.

“I decided to enter into electoral politics due to corruption prevailing in the government offices,” he added.

Prasad Yadav, was elected as district board member from Nadriganj in Nawada district.

Rajballabh is serving sentence in connection with rape of a minor girl hailing from Nalanda district a few years ago.

, who was in the fray from Ganeshpur Babhanpura panchayat on the post of mukhiya, lost to Asha Devi by 386 votes.

The counting of votes of the eights phase of the panchayat election held on November 24 began at respective counting centres at around 8am amid tight security arrangements.

A total of 92,376 candidates were in the fray against 25,247 posts under three tier panchayati raj institutions.

The election was held in 55 blocks spread over 36 districts in this phase.

The electioneering for the ninth phase to be held on November 29 will come to an end Saturday at 5pm.
