NEW DELHI: Bihar Police arrested a woman for allegedly murdering her husband after performing Vat Savitri Puja, a tirual observed by married women for the long life of their husbands.
The incident was reported from Sherghati area in Gaya district.
As per the police, the woman gave her husband a watermelon laced with poison to eat.
Mantu Yadav, reportedly consumed the poisoned fruit on May 26 and soon began feeling unwell.
Before collapsing, he managed to inform his sister-in-law that his wife, Lakhia Devi, had given him watermelon laced with poison. He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Confirming the arrest, Sanjeet Kumar Prabhat, deputy superintendent of police (Sherghati), said: “We filed an FIR on May 26 based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s sister-in-law. The victim had told her that he was poisoned by his wife. The accused, Lakhia Devi, has been taken into custody. We are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death.”
