Patna: Union minister of state for textiles and external affairs, Pabitra Margherita, on Thursday highlighted Bihar’s potential in garment manufacturing, stating that the state is poised to emerge as a hub for ready-made apparel production.
Addressing the annual convocation of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Patna at Adhiveshan Bhawan as the chief guest, Margherita said that leading manufacturers and renowned brands are being encouraged to establish production units in Bihar. He noted that some companies have already taken steps in this direction, with a few manufacturing units now operational in Begusarai.
As many as 189 scholars of the institute, who graduated in 2025, were awarded degrees at the convocation and seven of them gold medals for their outstanding performance.
The event was also attended by state’s chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit, NIFT director general Tanu Kashyap, NIFT Patna director Rahul Sharma, along with faculty members and students.
