Bihar: One dead, four injured in stampede during army recruitment process

PATNA/SASARAM: At least one candidate was crushed to death and four others were injured after a stampede broke out on the entrance of

Bihar Military Police

(BMP-2) premises located under

Dehri police station

in Rohtas district on wee hours of Wednesday during

Army’s recruitment process

.

The deceased was identified as Mukesh Kumar (22) while the four injured were unidentified as

Deovrat Kumar

,

Shyam Nand Kumar

,

Dahrmendra Kumar

and Vimlesh Kumar, all in their early 20s. The injured were rushed to sadar hospital from where Vimlesh was later taken to BHU trauma centre in Varanasi due to serious condition.

said the stampede took place when the gate of the ground was opened in early morning for the candidate.

Dehri SDPO Anwar Jawed Ansari said that the incident took place at around 3am when around 6000 candidates were waiting at BMP premises’s entrance.

“As soon as the gates were opened, the crowd tried to rush inside resulting some youths fell down. Even though the entry time was till 7am, youths tried to enter as soon as possible for securing in the initial batches,” the SDPO said.

He said district wise recruitment process was being conducted by Army since January 6 on the BMP premises and on Wednesday, it was turn of youths from Gaya districts to compete for selection.

“Elaborate security arrangements were present at the spot. Selection process for rest of the day continued smoothly,” the SDPO said adding recruitment process would continue till January 18.

He said that the body of the deceased was handed over to the family members after conducting a post mortem. “No visible physical injury was present body of the youth. Perhaps he had died of suffocation,” he said.

The deceased was native of

Udan Bigha village

under Sherghati police station, Deovrat was native of Aadopur village under Atri police station, Shyam was from Badua village under Fatehpur police station, Dharmendra was from Sonahatthu village under Gurua police station while Vimelsh was native of Kamat village which was also under Sherghati police station in the Gaya district.
