PATNA: As part of the second edition of the Bihar Museum Biennale, a two-day symposium commenced in the city on Tuesday.

The event featured a session on ‘Curatorial Strategies and Displays in Museums’, followed by a discussion on the ‘Changing Creative Industry in Museums’.

In the inaugural session, Yannick Lintz, the president of the Guimet Museum in Paris, took centre stage for the keynote address.

She addressed pressing issues such as cultural globalization’s impact on museums, the delicate balance of East-West influences, and the ecological challenges museums face.

In the second session, Pheroza Godrej, the founder of Cymroza Art Gallery in Mumbai, and Rakhi Sarkar, the founder of the Centre of International Modern Art in Kolkata, discussed the shifting creativity in museums.

The biennale is a global event, hosting four national and nine international museums from countries such as Brazil, France, Nepal, Costa Rica, Israel, the USA, Russia, Italy, and Thailand. Under the theme ‘Connecting People, Connecting Cultures, Interrogating Museums’, the event is envisioned to redefine museums as welcoming and inclusive hubs.

Come Wednesday, attendees can look forward to sessions on ‘New Museums and Typologies’ and ‘Indigenous and Intangible Cultural Heritage’.

Key speakers include Stephen Inglis of the Canadian Museum of History, Lebanese/French architect Hala Wardé, and Museum of Solutions directorMichael Peter Edson.

The next session will feature speakers like Lars-Christian Koch from Berlin’s Staatliche Museen and Amareswar Galla from Anant National University in Ahmedabad.

Along with the biennale, the Bihar Museum has organized an art exhibition titled ‘Together, We Art’, in collaboration with the G20 cultural working group.

The exhibition, which will conclude on October 7, has artwork from distinguished artists across 20 G20members and 9 guest countries.
