PATNA: Life size statues of five
CM Nitish Kumar and state’s building construction minister Ashok Choudhary also were present at the Raj Bhavan when the governor unveiled the five statues, installed at different locations in Bakhtiyarpur, the birthplace of CM Nitish Kumar.
The five prominent freedom fighters whose statues were unveiled are Sheel Bhadra Yajee (his statue is installed at the primary health centre’s premises), Martyr Mogal Singh (block office premises), martyr Nathun Singh Yadav (new bypass road, Raghopur village), Doomar Singh (Higher secondary school premises) and late Kaviraj Ramlakhan Singh (his statue is installed at Dak-Bungalow premises). All the five statues were built and installed by the state’s building construction department.
CM Nitish’s father Kaviraj Ramlakhan went to jail at the age of 19 years while participating in the nation-wide protest against the arrival of Simon Commission to India in 1929. He spent three and a half months at Patna camp jail. Born at Kalyan Bigha village in Nalanda district, Kaviraj Ramlakhan was arrested for the second time in 1930 while participating in the Salt Satyagraha Andolan. He was put up in the Patna City camp for four months.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM thanked the governor for accepting his request to unveil the statues of five freedom fighters.
“I recall when the Congress leader Ram Chandra Bharti (also a native of Bakhtiarpur) became the MLC he insisted on installing a statue of my father Kaviraj Ramlakhan Singh at Bakhtiarpur Dak Bungalow premises. Then, I told Bharti Ji that initiative should be taken for installing the statues of all freedom fighters of Bakhtiyarpur. Today, I am happy that the statues of all five freedom fighters of Bakhtiyarpur were unveiled by the Governor,” Nitish said while addressing the public of Bakhtiarpur through video conferencing.
The CM also recalled that his father was a ‘Vaidya’ (Ayurvedic doctor). “When I was in school, my father used to tell me about the freedom movement and the contribution and

Nepotism & caste equation dominate the CM's roll out. Thakur Jagannath Singh of Sheohar Block, Mahuaria Village was an youth freedom fighter exiled to Nepal by the British Raj and poisoned to death in Nepal by the British Intelligence. No recognition, no Tamra Patra, no Freedom Fighter awards since his wife took to sanyas and only daughter & son died. Bihar Govt must recognize such unsung heroes of our freedom struggle who never drew any political mileage from their freedom struggle. They did their bit towards India's Freedom struggle and disappeared without seeking any in return. Bihar will be honoured if such valiant selfless Freedom Fighters contributions are honoured & recognized.Read allPost comment
