NEW DELHI: Renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha, known for her soulful Chhath and folk songs, was cremated with full state honors in Patna on Thursday.

She passed away at the age of 72 on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi.

Sinha's body was flown to Patna from Delhi on Wednesday, where it was received by several state ministers. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar paid his respects at her residence in Patna's Rajendra Nagar area.

Hundreds of fans and admirers gathered at the Gulbi Ghat crematorium in Patna's Mahendru area to bid farewell to the beloved singer.

Her son, Anshuman Sinha, performed the last rites. Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Ashwani Choubey was also present.

Sinha was a celebrated figure in the world of folk music, earning the title of 'Bihar Kokila'. She was known for her unique blend of classical and folk elements in her renditions of Chhath and traditional songs.

Her passing on the first day of Chhath, a significant festival in Bihar, has resonated deeply with fans. This year, she released the song "Dukhwa Mitayin Chhathi Maiya," a poignant prayer reflecting her struggle with illness, just a day before her demise.

Born in Supaul, Bihar, Sinha's musical legacy extends beyond her home state, reaching parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh as well. She was particularly revered for her contributions to Chhath Puja and wedding songs.

Sinha's talent transcended traditional folk music, earning her a place in Bollywood as well. Her voice graced the soundtrack of the 1990 blockbuster "Maine Pyar Kiya," where her rendition of "Kahe tose sajna" became an instant classic.
