PATNA: Governor Lalji Tandon awarded cash prize and appreciation certificates to some of the brave soldiers from the state on
Republic Day on Saturday. They had earlier been awarded by the Union government for their selfless service to nation.
Sushma Nand, the widow of late Corporal Jyoti Prakash Nirala from Rohtas district, received a cash prize of Rs 8 lakh and an appreciation certificate from the governor.
Nirala was posthumously awarded Ashoka Chakra in 2018.
Gunner Rishi Kumar Ray of Bhojpur, who was awarded Shaurya Chakra in 2017 for his exemplary bravery and selfless service, received a cash prize of Rs 1.5 lakh and an appreciation certificate.
Major Shekhar Kumar of Katihar and the winner of ‘Sena Medal’ by the Union government received Rs 75,000 and an appreciation certificate. Major Nitesh Kumar from Sheikhpura also received a cash prize of Rs 75,000. He was also awarded Sena Medal for gallantry.
Major Manish Kumar Yadav of Danapur Cantonment area and Sena Medal awardee, was given Rs 75,000 and a certificate.
Lieutenant Sanjay Kumar Jha from Bhagalpur and also the winner of Sena Medal received Rs 1.5 lakh cash prize on the occasion.
Four of the army men who got ‘Mention in dispatches’ were awarded with Rs50,000 cash prize each with certificates for their meritorious service in operational areas. They were Major Rajiv Kumar from Champaran, Captain Kumar Arun from Gopalganj, Regimental Havaldar Major Ajit Kumar from Maner and Major Amit Kumar Mishra from Saharsa.
