Bihar emerging as key sporting destination: CS

Patna: The All India Civil Services Athletics Championship 2025-26 was inaugurated with enthusiasm on Saturday at the Patliputra Sports Complex in the state capital.

The championship was formally inaugurated by chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit, who welcomed all participating teams to Bihar. The national-level event has brought together athletes from 31 state and central secretariat teams, showcasing the spirit of unity, discipline, and sportsmanship among India’s civil services.




Addressing the athletes and officials, the chief secretary highlighted Bihar’s emergence as a growing sporting destination in the country. He recalled the successful hosting of several major national and international events in recent years, including the Khelo India Youth Games, Hero Men’s Hockey Tournament, Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, and the Asian Under-20 Rugby Championship.

Amrit said Bihar is widely known for its rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality, and assured participants of a conducive and athlete-friendly environment throughout the championship. He expressed confidence that the event would not only promote sporting excellence but also strengthen camaraderie among civil servants from across the country.

The opening ceremony featured a disciplined march past by all 31 participating teams, symbolising unity and competitive spirit. This was followed by the unfurling of the flags of the Bihar Secretariat Sports Foundation and the All India Civil Services, formally marking the commencement of the championship.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by several senior IAS officials of Bihar, including Deepak Kumar Singh, B Rajender, Mahendra Kumar, and Shirshat Kapil Ashok, along with other dignitaries and officials.
