PATNA: In a bid to introduce international and national students at Nalanda University (NU) to the richness of Indian cultural repositories and musical traditions, renowned vocalist duo of Banaras Gharana, Pt Ritesh Mishra and Pt Rajneesh Mishra presented a classical musical show at the varsity's Sushma Swaraj Auditorium on Friday.
The concert started with a composition based on Raga Multani.
This composition was set in Madhya Laya followed by Druta Laya Teen Taal. Kaushik Kanwar on tabla showed his mastery on different rhythmic patterns, while Zakir Dholpuri had melodious sargam on harmonium. The performance concluded with a bhajan.
Students from around 32 countries studying at NU witnessed the programme. It was an event of the Nalanda University SPIC MACAY chapter conducted under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.
Underlining the significance of this programme, NU vice-chancellor (VC) Sunaina Singh said: "Nalanda University is committed to the all-around development of its students, including cultural and artistic creativity. These programmes enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it."
At the end of the programme, the students expressed their gratitude to NU administration for providing such an opportunity to glimpse India's glorious cultural legacy. An NU official claimed that the programme also aids the University's aim of connecting the world through knowledge routes, culture and heritage.
