PATNA

: A 27-year-old bank officer was shot at and injured by motorbike-borne armed criminals in Purnia, police said on Friday.

The incident took place when the banker, Sumit Sagar, was returning to his rented accommodation in Purnia from the Jalalgarh branch of State Bank of India (SBI) under the Kasba police station area of the district on his motorbike on Thursday evening.

Police said three criminals riding a motorbike signalled Sumit to stop his motorbike between Kasba and Gadhbanaili.

When he didn't stop his vehicle and tried to escape, one of the criminals riding pillion opened fire from close range injuring him.

The criminals, who were in the age group of 20-25 years, however, fled the spot as some motorists reached there.

Sagar, a native of Giridih district in Jharkhand, was rushed to Kasba PHC from where he was later referred to Purnia sadar hospital.

Kasba police station SHO Pankaj Anand said on Friday that the injured banker is stated to be out of danger at the sadar hospital in Purnia.
