Bapu remembered on 79th death anniversary
Patna: Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and CM Nitish Kumar on Friday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and martyrs of the freedom struggle by garlanding his statue at Gandhi Ghat on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day, which was observed with full state honours.
In a separate programme, Congress leaders paid homage to the Mahatma at the party headquarters, Sadaquat Ashram. Friday marked the 79th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
At Gandhi Ghat, the state armed police offered a salute, followed by a two-minute silence in memory of the Mahatma. Both the governor and the CM observed silence and paid their respects. They were accompanied by ministers, dignitaries and senior state, division and district officials.
Congress leaders, led by the party’s state president Rajesh Ram, paid homage to the Mahatma and martyrs by offering floral tributes to his portrait at Sadaquat Ashram.
“Given the present social and political situation in the country, it has become incumbent upon people to follow the path shown by the Mahatma,” Ram said.
