Dr Azad told this newspaper that the council aims at facilitating pan-international collaboration in tackling the problems of infant blindness across the world. “As we have emerged from the challenges of Covid-19 pandemic, it is important to revive our resolve to tackle ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) through global partnerships,” he said.

He further said the council would spearhead an effective and universal programme to look after all the emerging areas in screening, diagnosis and skillful management of ROP, an eye disease that affects many premature babies.
