Aurangabad: Cops at Aurangabad's women police station prefer to resolve family disputes through mutual consent, instead of lodging FIRs and punishing culprits. Acting as peacemakers, police have helped at least 23 couples tie the knot this year.
Aurangabad resident Shahnaz Praveen recalls how women police station SHO Shakuntla Kumari brought two families together. "My neighbour and I were in love with each other, but his family did not approve of our marriage. I sought the help of the women police station SHO, who convinced our parents to participate in our wedding," she adds.
"Taking strict action is our last resort as we are here to resolve cases without harassing anyone. In love affair cases, we try to convince the families concerned and solemnize marriage," SHO Shakuntla says and adds she is happy that people are appreciating her initiative.
