to cancel the trains to Dibrugarh in Assam for August 13 and 14 and close the bookings.

Packed because of long weekend, the 23-rake trains would have carried more than 700 passengers each. Trains 15903 Dibrugarh to Chandigarh and 15904 Chandigarh to Dibrugarh were cancelled. There was no cancellation notice on railway website and passengers who came to board the train on Sunday night at Chandigarh were caught by surprise.

Abhishek Verma, who had a confirmed ticket, was upset why the railways had not cared to inform the passengers. "It is absurd to turn up with your family to board the train and come to know there will be no journey," he said.

said the railways should have made alternative travel arrangements for those who had confirmed ticket. For the convenience of passengers, Northern Railway has added a stoppage at Arsikere on routes of 22685 Yashvantpur-Chandigarh and Chandigarh-Yashvantpur bi-weekly Sampark
