Army veteran’s son dies by suicide in Madhepura

Patna: A 15-year-old boy, the son of an Army veteran, died by suicide in Bhatgama village under Chausa police station in Madhepura district on Thursday. The boy allegedly used his father’s licensed pistol to shoot himself in the right temple. He was a Class XII student studying in Patna and was at home on holiday. The body was sent for post-mortem, police said.

The deceased was identified as Tanmay Kumar, the son of Army veteran Vinod Kumar Singh.


According to police, Singh has a licensed pistol registered in his name, which Tanmay allegedly used to shoot himself. Tanmay was studying in Class 12 in Patna and had been staying at his native village, Bhatgama, for the past one month.

Chausa SHO Ravi Kumar Paswan reached the spot along with police personnel. The licensed pistol used in the incident was seized.

“Family members have not yet revealed any concrete reason for the suicide, making the case even more complicated. Considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the case, the forensic (FSL) team collected the evidence. We want to ensure whether the case is a suicide or if there is any other reason behind it. The situation will become completely clear only after scientific investigation,” the SHO said.

He added that the post-mortem process was currently under way and further legal action would be taken after receiving an application from the family members. Police may also examine Tanmay’s mobile phone and other personal belongings to find clues about the reasons behind the suicide, he said.
