ARARIA: The Araria district police have identified Bauwa Rai, resident of village Srinagar of Madhepura district, as the man who allegedly shot Bhargama police station SHO Prabin Kumar on Tuesday evening.
Rai is at large and police are trying to nab him.
Darbhanga police zone IG Amit Kumar Jain, who rushed to the place of occurrence on July 15, interrogated two criminals, Panchanand Das and Prafull Yadav.
They were caught by police from the spot with unlicensed firearms. Two looted motorcycles were also recovered from the spot, police said.
Araria SP Vijoy Kumar Verma said Bauwa Rai is a notorious criminal who used to commit dacoity and loot cattle traders of the area. The criminals had gathered at Belsara village to loot cattle traders at Raghunathpur village when the killing took place.
Inspector Prabin Kumar, who joined police as an SI in 2009, had arrested many criminals during his posting at different police stations. The Araria SP has donated a week’s salary while other police officers of the district have donated a day’s salary for the kin of Prabin.
