PATNA
: The new campus of
Aryabhatta Knowledge University
(AKU), which was inaugurated by chief minister (CM) Nitish Kumar on Thursday, boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure.
The new campus, spread over an area of 7.6 acres of land in Mithapur, has seven buildings which are equipped with modern facilities. Apart from the administrative, academic, examination and library blocks, AKU also has a vice-chancellor’s (VC) bungalow, guesthouse, quarters for scholars and university staff. The estimated cost of constructing the buildings was Rs 122.7 crore.
The G+6 academic building has separate floors for different centres — economics, mass communication, geography, nanoscience and
nanotechnology
and river studies. Each floor has four professor chambers, three discussion rooms, 10 laboratories, HoD chambers, two classrooms, waiting lounge, canteen, library and research scholar rooms.
The examination and library blocks are equipped with seven exam halls, strong rooms, e-libraries, invigilator rooms, data rooms, handicapped rooms and a pantry. The administrative block will be used for AKU’s office work. The scholars’ quarters can accommodate 31 people at a time.
Addressing the inaugural function, AKU VC Arun Kumar Agarwal said, “We will soon start four new centres — Pataliputra School of Economics, Centre for Geographical Studies, Centre for River Studies and Centre for Journalism and Mass Communication — which will function as autonomous institutes and decide their courses and number of students to be admitted.”
Altogether 106 colleges across the state are already functioning under the aegis of AKU. There are 50 researchers enrolled in MTech and PhD courses under Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology who have led to several innovations like preparation of medicine from cow urine to treat patients of
tuberculosis
.
AKU pro-VC S M Karim said, “We have assured the CM that the we will start three new centres —
stem cell
, astronomy and philosophy — soon.”
The foundation for the new AKU campus was laid by Nitish Kumar in August, 2015.
