Samastipur: An agro scientist, identified as Reyaz Akhtar (35), committed suicide at Pusa under the same police station area of Samastipur district on Wednesday night. His body was found in his rented room near Rajendra Agriculture University (RAU) on Thursday morning and sent to the Samastipur sadar hospital for postmortem.
Pusa police station SHO said the cops broke into the scientist's room, which was bolted from inside. "The landlord sensed some trouble when the scientist did not get up in the morning. His body was lying on the floor with an electric wire tied round his neck and blood oozing from the cut mark that the wire had made. Apparently, he had committed suicide by hanging himself with the help of the piece of wire which broke down ultimately due to the weight of the body," the SHO added.
Reyaz was initially appointed a lecturer in RAU and posted at Rajendra Agriculture College in Dholi with the condition that he would have to clear National Eligibility Test (NET) within five years.
However, he could not clear the exam within the stipulated period of time and was later fired from service. He then joined as a senior research scholar in RAU, but was reportedly in depression.
It is not clear whether he was being treated for depression or not. No suicide note was found in his room.
