Admin swings into action, cleans Buxar PICU after two years of neglect

Buxar: The health department swung into action after a report in TOI exposed the dilapidated condition of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Buxar Sadar Hospital, built at a cost of Rs2.47 crore. The district administration on Saturday launched an immediate clean-up drive.Empty liquor bottles, narcotic injections, medical solutions and other objectionable materials were cleared from the premises, while a comprehensive sanitisation of the hospital complex is underway.DM Sahila said the PICU has remained non-operational primarily due to a shortage of doctors and staff. She has written to the health department, seeking urgent deployment of required manpower and specialist doctors.The DM assured that the state-of-the-art facility would be made functional at the earliest once adequate staffing is in place, with the aim of providing advanced care to critically ill children within the district.Buxar BJP MLA Anand Mishra also took cognisance of the issue and contacted the district administration following the TOI report.Meanwhile, social worker Ramaji Singh welcomed the clean-up drive but questioned the delay, asking why the ward remained non-functional for nearly two years.
