patna: a six-day annual conference of the association of surgeons of india, which begins here from december 25, will discuss a host of subjects pertaining to medical sciences. pre-conference workshop to be arranged in four operation theatres of the patna medical college hospital (pmch) on basic and advanced laparoscopic surgery, open surgery, endoscopic workshop, laser prostateclomy operation will be a major highlight of the conference.
speaking to mediapersons, organising secretary of the conference dr b k sinha said while vice-president krishan kant will formally inaugurate the conference on december 27, union health and family welfare minister dr c p thakur, chief minister rabri devi and a host of doctors from different parts of the country and abroad will take part in deliberations. dr sinha said over 1,500 delegates and post-graduate students will attend the continuing medical education (cme) programme on december 26. scientific papers and modern gadgets will be presented. guest lectures will be delivered from december 27 to december 30 by eminent doctors. to commemorate the memory and contribution to the development of surgery, lectures in the name of former senior surgeons of the country will be delivered by well known surgeons, including prof n c mishra (lucknow), prof j d wig (chandigarh), prof adarsh chaudhary (new delhi), prof m n gupta (chandigarh), prof a venugopal (chennai), prof v n shikhande (mumbai) and krishna kumar madhavan (uk). symposia on changing paradigm of controversies in thyrroid carcinoma, laparoscopic surgery, credentialing and legal issues, enterocutaneous fistula and management of abdominal trauma will also be organised. the conference is being hosted by the bihar chapter of the association of surgeons of india, dr sinha said.
