DARBHANGA: Five students of Mithila Minority Dental College here on Saturday made a suicide attempt one after another to protest alleged extortionist attitude of the college management.
Sources said Atul Kumar Mishra, a final year student, was the first to consume sleeping pills in his college hostel here on Saturday evening. Even as he was admitted to DMCH in a precarious condition, enraged college students blocked the local Hazma Chowk and disrupted traffic between Darbhanga and Samastipur.
In a dramatic development, four other students swallowed sleeping pills right at the blockade site — in the presence of police officials.

They were rushed to DMCH after they collapsed. Atul had not gained consciousness till reports last came in while the other four were also said to be in a serious condition.
The agitating students said their friends took the extreme step because the college management had asked them to deposit Rs 50,000 prior to the submission of forms for taking final year examinations. A suicide note, purportedly written by Atul, blamed the college management for his plight. The note asked for stringent measures against the college authorities.
District officials were camping at the site along with forces. The college officials could not be contacted immediately as they went incommunicado.
