4 held for killing man over extra-marital affair in Kishanganj

Patna: Police arrested four people on Saturday for allegedly killing a 25-year-old man in Kishanganj district, and staging the incident as a road accident. The arrests, made within 18 hours of the crime, revealed a conspiracy fuelled by family resentment over an alleged illicit relationship. The victim, identified as Zulfkar, was a resident of Padaria village in Araria and reportedly involved in an extra-marital affair with a woman named Khushbu.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Mohammad Adam, Sahajad Alam, Khushbu Begum (19), and Mohammad Anjar Alam, all residents of Dahibhat village under Tedhagach police station. They confessed to the crime during interrogation.


Superintendent of Police (SP) Kishanganj, Sagar Kumar, said, “Zulfkar, a resident of Padaria village in Araria district, was having an extra-marital affair with Khushbu. Both met at a wedding six months ago and remained in contact. On the night of December 20, the woman called Zulfkar to her home. While they were intimate, her brothers caught them red-handed. Enraged over this, they tied the man with a rope, beat him mercilessly, and struck him fatally on the head with a stick, resulting in his death,” he said.

The SP further said that to destroy evidence, the accused loaded the body into a car, transported it about 2 km away near Fulwadi village in Rajwan, and attempted to crush it under the vehicle to make it appear as a road accident. “Zulfkar's undamaged motorcycle at the spot raised suspicions. Following a complaint by the victim's wife, Husne Ara, a special team led by SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar, under the SP’s directions, used technical evidence to unravel the case. Police recovered the car, a motorcycle, and four mobile phones. The accused are being sent to judicial custody,” the SP added.
