GAYA: Four employees of the
Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee have been suspended on the charge of tampering with the donation boxes placed in the vicinity of the seat of the Buddha’s enlightenment. They were night guards. Action against them has been taken on the basis of CCTV footage showing the employees attempting to open the box.

The suspended employees were deputed elsewhere in the shrine and as such they were not supposed to be in the
donation box
area. The suspension letter was issued on Thursday.
According to Temple Management Committee member Arvind Singh, the shrine on an average receives about Rs 5 crore per annum from the offerings made by the devotees. The donation boxes are opened under strict vigil once every three months, said Singh.
In their written explanation, the night guards maintained that the donation boxes were sealed and as such tampering was not possible.
Confirming their suspension, Gaya DM Abhishek Singh, who is also the ex officio chairman of the shrine management committee, said the process to dismiss the employees from service has also been started. An FIR has also been lodged against them, the DM said.
