PATNA: Jehanabad’s Dharnai gram panchayat under Makhdumpur block has been awarded the best performing panchayat for adopting child-friendly practices under ‘Child Friendly Gram Panchayat Award’ (CFGPA).
The panchayat mukhiya received the award from Union minister for rural development and panchayati raj Narendra Singh Tomar at the National Panchayat Awards, 2019 ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Dharnai panchayat received two more awards – ‘Nanaji Deshmukh Rashtriya Gaurav Gram Sabha Puraskar (NDRGGSP)’ and ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sashaktikaran Puraskar (DDUPSP)’ in separate categories for creating improvements in the social and economic structure of the village and delivery of services and public goods, respectively.
Singhwahini in Sitamarhi and Damodarpur Baldha in Nalanda also bagged DDUPSP. The panchayats were selected on various parameters, including sanitation, natural resource management, innovations and e-governance and infrastructure (streetlights and drinking water and roads). Altogether 22 gram panchayats from across the country were awarded in CFGPA and 20 in NDRGGSP .
Chandrashekhar Singh, director in panchayati raj department, said the department would felicitate the mukhiyas of awardee panchayats in an official programme to be held at Patna on Friday.
Dharnai panchayat mukhiya Ajay Singh Yadav said it was a matter of pride for the villagers, district and state.
