3 IPS officers among 20 selected for Prez medal

The Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday announced the names of 20 Bihar police officers for President’s medal for their heroic acts and distinguished services.

Patna: The Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday announced the names of 20 Bihar police officers for President’s medal for their heroic acts and distinguished services.
Eight policemen, including an IPS officer, have been selected for the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for showing exemplary bravery on duty while two were selected for President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Bihar cadre IPS officer Amit Lodha, Pupri SDPO Pankaj Kumar, sub-inspectors Vinod Kumar, Ram Dular Singh, Dharmendra Kumar and Binod Kumar and constables Gulshan Kumar, Dinanath Diwakar and Kumar Gaurav were selected for their bravery.
DG-cum-CMD of Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation (BPBCC) Abhay Kumar Upadhyay and CID inspector Syed Rafat Kamal have been selected for their distinguished services. Upadhayay has been selected for his excellent service records, said DGP P K Thakur. He said the work of these policemen has been recognized by the government.
Ten policemen, including Saharsa SP Ashwini Kumar, have been selected for President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service. Others are sub-inspectors Sunita Kumari, Padmakar Pandey, Musafir Singh Yadav, Mukhtar Singh, ASI Rajram Tiwari, Raghav Mishra, Santosh Kumar Singh, hawildar Pramod Kumar Sinha and Ajay Pratap Singh.
ADJ (headquarters) Sunil Kumar said, “Lodha, a Bihar cadre IPS officer of 1998 batch, is now DIG, Border Security Force in Rajasthan.” Lodha, as Begusarai SP in March 2008, along with the then DSP Pankaj Kumar, SI Vinod Kumar and Ram Dular Singh and several others had an encounter with Maoists in village Saraunja Mahal under the Virpur police station area in the district.
Twelve Maoists had been arrested in the operation and huge cache of arms and ammunition was seized from their possession. That operation has won Lodha the gallantry medal. SI Dharmendra Kumar with his team of commando constable Dinanath Diwakar and constables Gulshan Kumar and Kumar Gaurav had neutralized notorious criminal Disco in Khirni locality under the Alamganj police station area of Patna district in April, 2013. Dharmendra, Diwakar and Gaurav are now in special cell of Patna police. Two policemen had also received injuries in the encounter with criminals. One criminal was arrested with arms and ammunition during the encounter.
