PATNA: Girls did it again! They captured 16 of the 27 gold medals awarded to the toppers of the postgraduate examinations of 2022 of Nalanda Open University (NOU) at its 15th convocation here on Monday. More than 5,000 scholars who passed examinations of undergraduate and postgraduate courses were conferred with their degrees at the convocation.

Bihar (CUSB) vice-chancellor Kameshwar Nath Singh was the chief guest on the occasion and delivered the convocation address.
Governor-cum-chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presided and awarded gold medals to the toppers. NOU vice-chancellor K C Sinha gave away degrees to the scholars.
Delivering the convocation address, Singh congratulated the degree recipients for their hard labour and appealed to them to utilize their knowledge in ensuring development of a healthy society. Education is relevant only when it is able to serve the needs of the changing society, he said.
Governor Arlekar, in his presidential remarks, said convocation is the beginning of a journey of the successful phase of educated life. He called upon the scholars to utilize their talent for the all-round development of their nation.
NOU vice-chancellor Sinha, in his report, said that without receiving any grant from the government since its inception, the university has been imparting quality education. More than one lakh students were presently enrolled in altogether 106 courses of 12 schools running in the university.

Besides, the scholars who were awarded gold medals by donors include Arpana Sahay (history), Payal Roy (economics), Nancy (library and information science), Ashutosh Srivastava and Naimul Haque Ansari (psychology), Shriyanshi Shivangi (chemistry), Ravi Nath Sinha (rural development), Archana Verma (best girl postgraduate) and Haney Kumari (best girl graduate).
