26-year-old youth brutally murdered in Nawada
Patna: A 26-year-old youth, Prashant Kumar, was brutally murdered in Nawada on Saturday evening. He was first attacked with iron rods and then stabbed multiple times in the middle of the market. The incident occurred in Gonawan Mazar locality under Town police station area in Nawada town.
Prashant, a resident of Nawada, was preparing for competitive exams in Patna and had come to the town to attend a friend’s wedding. He was allegedly attacked by a group of boys who beat him up with iron rods and stabbed him multiple times. The shopkeepers in the area fled in fear, leaving their shops open. The postmortem of the deceased is being carried out at the sadar hospital on Sunday, police said.
Upon receiving information, Nawada SP Abhinav Dhiman, Sadar SDPO Hulas Kumar, and Town SHO Avinash Kumar, along with a police team, reached the spot. Police said raids were conducted at several locations but no one was caught. The criminals appear to have fled to another area after committing the crime, they said.
Prashant was the eldest son in his family. His father works in the private sector in Jaipur.
His family members said Prashant came to Nawada from Patna to attend his friend’s wedding.
After attending the wedding on Thursday, he stayed at home for two days before leaving on Saturday evening without telling anyone where he was going. He was supposed to return to Patna on Sunday, but he was murdered on Saturday, Sadar SDPO said.
People from the area where the murder took place, on the condition of anonymity, said Prashant was surrounded by some youths. First, they beat him up, then they surrounded him from all sides and started attacking him with iron rods. He made desperate bid to escape, but the miscreants were greater in number. During the assault, one boy stabbed Prashant multiple times with a knife. After this, they fled from there.
The Sadar SDPO said, “Police are examining the CCTV footage to identify the criminals and know the motive behind the killing. We are investigating possible love affair, enmity, or old rivalry.”
