Two more Biharsharif shelter home inmates hospitalised
BIHARSHARIF: Two more minor inmates of Biharsharif- based Nalanda shelter home for boys' were admitted to Biharsharif sadar hospital in the last two days following complaints of severe bowel disorders.

A 15-year-old inmate of the shelter home, run by an NGO Bhartiya Jan Utthan Parishad, had died during treatment on September 4. Reports suggest that many of the inmates are not keeping well at the shelter home due to malnutrition. One of the two children undergoing treatment at sadar hospital made a startling revelation on Thursday that the inmates largely depend on roasted mix of gram and rice for their meals and they are occasionally given boiled rice and roti and that too in a very small quantity. "We have never seen milk or fruit at the shelter home," said the inmate.
When asked about the alleged plight of the minors at the shelter home, Nalanda DM Thiyagarajan SM said those being treated for anaemia, which is apparently due to malnutrition, are special need children and among those 24 children were brought here from
He said a team of doctors has been directed on Friday to carry out a thorough medical check-up of all the residents of the shelter home, and if need be, they would be sent to
On alleged poor food being served to them, DM Thiyagarajan said a probe by Biharsharif SDM JP Agrawal has been ordered to be carried out on Friday. “Action will be taken based on the probe report.” He added the government has been apprised of the special need children brought here from Gaya with a request to immediately take requisite action in this regard.
