PATNA: As many as 18 former vice-chancellors of Patna University (PU) will be felicitated for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the university at the valedictory function of the university’s centenary celebrations on August 25 here.
Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar will be the chief guest at the function and governor-cum-chancellor Satya Pal Malik will preside.

Those who are to be felicitated at the function include M Mohiuddin, Rahul Sarin, Anil Kumar, P N Narayanan, S N P Sinha, M P Sinha, L N Ram, K K Jha, Vibhas Kumar Yadav, Jagannath Thakur, Syed Ehteshamuddin, Y C Simhadri, Shyam Lal, Sudipta Adhikari, Shambhu Nath Singh, Upendra Kishore Sinha, Arun Kumar Sinha and Sudhir Kumar Srivastava. Some of them have served as the VC just for a few days.
Preparations for holding the closing ceremony of the yearlong centenary celebrations were reviewed by the members of the PU centenary celebration committee at its meeting held here on Sunday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh. The valedictory function will be held from 3 to 4.40pm on August 25 at Bapu Sabhagar of Ashoka Convention Centre here.
The VC pointed out that a special postage stamp commemorating PU’s centenary celebrations will be released by Bihar’s postmaster general M E Haque on the occasion. The stamps will be priced at Rs 5 and Rs 10. Last year, the Indian Post had released a special postal cover on Patna University at a function held at Wheeler Senate House.
A multi-coloured souvenir depicting the history of 100 eventful years of the seventh oldest university of this sub-continent will also be released on the occasion.
Invitation to attend the closing ceremony of PU centenary celebrations will be extended to several VIPs, politicians, academics and alumni of the university. Students will be allowed at the function after production of their Aadhar card and photo identity card.
