In a statement, the CMO said four victims were from Gopalganj, two from Aurangabad, and one each from Patna, Muzaffarpur, Supaul, Banka, and West Champaran.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief over the tragedy and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of each deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be provided from the CM’s relief fund to each injured person from Bihar.

The stampede, which occurred on Wednesday near Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati—claimed at least 30 lives and left 60 others injured as a massive crowd gathered for the Mauni Amavasya holy dip.
