PATNA: Bihar reported its first fatality in political violence after five blemish-free phases of polling when a young man was killed on Tuesday and two others suffered gunshot injuries in a clash between RJD and BJP supporters in Saran, the Lok Sabha seat where ex-chief minister Lalu Prasad's daughter Rohini Acharya is making her electoral debut.

The clash at Bada Telpa village near Bhikhari Thakur Chowk prompted the administration to enforce an internet blackout in Saran district until 9am on May 23.

SHO Ashwani Kumar Tiwari of Chapra Town police station was taken off duty and sent to the police lines for failing to pre-empt the clash, which apparently originated from an altercation at a polling booth in Bada Telpa on Monday.

Police arrested two men, Ramakant Singh and Ravikant Singh, for the killing and seized from them firearms and ammunition.

The slain man was identified as Chandan Kumar Rai.
