Youth electrocuted, brother serious

The brothers, Rizwan (24) and Ikrar (23), belong to Salai village in Hapur. While Rizwan died on the spot, Ikrar is in a serious condition and has been referred to Delhi from a local hospital.
“It has been alleged that the 11 kV high-tension wire fell on the brothers when they were returning from work early in the morning. Police received a complaint from the victims’ uncle around 3 pm,” said Jarcha SHO Praveen Singh. An FIR has been registered against the power department on a complaint by the victims’ relatives, the SHO said.
When contacted, Mukul Singhal, superintending engineer, PVVNL, denied any loose overhead wire and maintained that the youth were engaged in some boring and submersible work on Monday morning at the house of one Ashok in Sainthli village. The boring pipe touched the overhead high tension wire, resulting in the electrocution of Rizwan and Ikrar, he said. “We are still in the preliminary stage of our investigation and will soon find out the exact cause behind the mishap. However, we will give them a compensation of up to 4 lakh,” Singhal told TOI.
