YEIDA plans cloverleaf interchange to connect EPE with Yamuna expressway

: To boost connectivity between Kundli, Ghaziabad and Palwal along Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) and the upcoming airport in Jewar, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (

) will connect the e-way with

EPE

through a

cloverleaf

interchange near Jaganpur-Afzalpur.

The proposal was approved in YEIDA’s 65th board meeting held on May 30.

While tender for the Rs 84 crore project was floated by YEIDA on May 30, it would be awarded in August. After that, it would take 18 months to complete the project. “The period of date of sale is from June 14 to July 13, 2019, and the final awarding of tender would likely be in August,” said K K Singh, general manager (projects), YEIDA.

Arun Vir Singh, the CEO, YEIDA, said: “At present, people have to travel 11 km to Sirsa interchange at Bir Akbarpur from the Yamuna Expressway to access EPE. With the cloverleaf interchange, commuters from Noida and Greater Noida can save that drive.”

He added that once completed, the interchange will also reduce the travel time of 60-70 minutes for those travelling from Faridabad, Palwal, Sonepat and Panipat.

“It will have four loops and eight ramps where the loops will provide access to Yamuna Expressway and EPE and the ramps will provide access to Yamuna City and Yamuna Expressway. It will have two entry-exit points,” said K K Singh.

The total area on which the interchange would be built is 57.1 hectare — given to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which will fund the project and has made the design layout. IIT-Delhi will study the design and give a final approval before work starts. The project would be implemented on an Engineering-Procurement-Construction basis, CEO Singh said.

“The need for the interchange was felt as we expect more traffic from NCR areas like Meerut, Moradabad, Faridabad and Palwal-Manesar as well as from Delhi, Noida and Greater Noida, once Jewar airport comes up. We feel that the interchange is important for future connectivity to Jewar airport and both the expressways,” said CEO Singh.
