NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old youth from Noida was attacked by a woman he met on social media after he declined her marriage proposal, police officials said on Wednesday.
The victim, Dheeraj, is currently being treated at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida.
Rabupura police station in-charge inspector Raghavendra Kumar Singh reported that Hansraj, a resident of Ronija village, filed a complaint on Tuesday night regarding an attack on his son, Dheeraj, a 21-year-old BCom student.
Hansraj stated that on the morning of December 24, Dheeraj received a call from Priya, a woman he had befriended on social media about six months ago. After becoming friends, Priya had visited Greater Noida.
According to the complaint, Priya invited Dheeraj to meet her and, while they were in a car, she spiked his fruit juice and forced him to drink it. She then called two of her friends, who joined her in attempting to attack Dheeraj with a sharp weapon.
Passersby discovered Dheeraj unconscious in the car and alerted the police. He was taken to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Inspector Singh confirmed that a case has been registered against Priya and her unidentified accomplices under several sections, including attempted murder. The investigation is ongoing.
